My grandfather Gerbrand DeBree is standing next to this magnificent home built by
His father Henry DeBree.
Gerbrand came to this area in 1885. He homesteaded land in prosper. My mothers two oldest
Sisters were born in the log cabin there in the woods. I have a picture of it.
Gerbrand married Johanna exter Spoelma in 1900. They had 5 children...one daughter
Henrietta DeBree was a teacher at Vogel Center school.
Gerbrand was also on the Missaukee co draft board at one time.

Henry DeBree, my great grandfather,a carpenter, built this house as well as the church and parsonage
In Vogel Center. He was one of the first deacons. He came with his wife Brechtje Dekker and 5 children under the age of 10 in the steerage if the ship from the Netherlands in 1885. I am in possession of this same picture of this great house. Gerbrand DeBree was my grandfather and he had the general store in vogel center...it was also Ben Bauers store at one time.
